President Raymund of the Rotary International Multinational Manila (RIMM) participated by committing to the 20 PDLs wishlist letters he got from their Christmas Wish tree during his first visit there with the District several months ago.

RIMM gave rice, assorted canned goods, a pack of biscuits, noodles, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush body soap and earbuds.

RIMM also brought a variety of bread for 150 inmates for snacks during the event.

The 20 PDLs thanked RIMM for fulfilling their Christmas wishes.

The beneficiaries were the PDLs in General Trias City Jail, Cavite composed of 1,156 male and female PDLs.

The District event aimed to cover the 7 Areas of Focus of Rotary.

The Rotary International Multinational Manila (RIMM) co-hosted the event along with other 50 plus clubs.

The District donated sacks of flour and rice, assorted canned goods, biscuits, coffee, school supplies, hygiene products, towels and cans of paint.

During the event there were other free services for the PDLs namely:
– Dental Extraction
– Pap Smear Check Up
– Optical Check up
– Seminar for the 3 R’s (Re-use, Reduce and Re-cycle)

District 3810 also assisted in the installation of a water pressure tank and motor pump to maintain hygiene among the prisoners and cleanliness inside the prison camp.

The event was sponsored by the District 3810, District 3830 and the Rotary Club of Makati.

The event was attended by selected needy 1,000 elementary school children and their parents.

Assorted school supplies, reading materials, hygiene kits and grocery packs were distributed to the participants.

There were key speakers who shared their insights on the “7 Areas Of Focus” of Rotary.

Our club Rotarian Imelda took charge of all these activities for Aetas (one of the minority tribal indigenes in the Philippines) in Subic, reported as follows:

The rice was distributed among the 16 families in the camp and the remaining two bags were to be distributed to another indigent families in other area of Alfosno, Cavite.

The children also enjoyed snack bread handed by the Japanese guests.

There was a man with enlarged testicles who had a hard time walking due to its enormous size. He explained that he had pain occasionally and showed us laboratory test results. Doctor Iwai who has a license in Japan briefly diagnosed it as a benign tumor and suggested an operation to incise and get the fluid out.
PP Raymund will coordinate with the municipal health department.

Such activities have mostly been reactive to the events that have happened, such as providing aids to damaged areas by natural disasters, ending polio, etc.

Now, Rotarians are stepping forward and challenging to create a new format of society.

We can see that the existing consumerist format of society is a dead end. As the result of pursuing profits of a few people, groups or corporations, there are dire poverty, wars and destruction in nature. Even mainstream mass media are control by them and the truth has been hidden. They do not tell us that there are unstoppable climate changes, but we have already seen or experienced them.

We people have to rise and unite. We need to voice that we want to end this consumerist society and create a new society that belongs to people and is organized directly by people.

About 70 indigent children attended the event.

Our club provided the following to the children:

• slippers
• clothing
• toys
• reading books
• school supplies ie. crayons, pencils
• packed biscuits and drinks

A Philippine non-profit organization Academy of World Healing Foundation (AWH) which provides the HQ facility to our club at no cost provided the following items that were donated by its guests from Japan:

• schools supplies
• adult clothing
• travel size hygiene items (shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, soap)
• bags
• men’s shoe

Children’s faces were lit up each time an item was individually handed to them. They also received P20 coins each. While the event was on-going the children opened their packed biscuits and drinks immediately.

The leader of Camp Hope was very grateful for extending the spirit of Christmas to their children. He even mentioned that it was only our club who helped them with weekly food supply during the Enhanced Community Quarantine period when they were not able to go out to sell taho (tofu), their vending staple. In a joyous voice all of the children said, “Maraming salamat po” (translation: “Thank you”) at the end of the event.

A variety of fresh vegetables, rice, assorted canned goods, trays of eggs, noodles, condiments, packs of coffee and creamer, sweet pineapple, supplements, face shields and masks were distributed to over 250 needy residents of Brgy. Sicat.

The above items were donated from individuals and the Luksuhin Market Association.

We saw residents of Camp Hope (nearby indigent setlers) who lined up early with their ecology bags so they can bring food for their families.

RIMM donated 50kg of rice and 4 trays of eggs.

The Brgy. Sicat Captain Arnel Caisip was grateful to RIMM for contributing to the Community Pantry event for the second time. Gina Vedan of DSWD along with Len Reyes, President of the Alfonso Women’s Council (AWC) who were present in the event were also thankful for the participation of RIMM.

The “Community Pantry” idea was started by a lady in Quezon City who brought out her small table and placed assorted items such as rice, vegetables, etc. Many others who saw her kind gesture on social media were inspired by the idea and started to pour in their own donations on their tables. Everyday many indigent people lined up for such charity supplies with their own bags under the scorching sun to be able to bring home some food for their family. In a recent survey, many Filipino families are experiencing moderate to extreme hunger during this Covid-19 pandemic.

Our club contributed 40 packs of biscuits and 72 sachets of Milo drink and plans more to donate.

There were individuals who donated sacks of rice, canned goods, noodles and trays of fresh eggs. The Association of the Luksuhin Market contributed many fresh vegetables. Even face shields and masks were given out.

There were over 90 individuals including Camp Hope residents who lined up as early as 7 AM with their own bags.

Members of the Women’s Club monitored the event to ensure that social distancing and wearing of masks were observed during the event.
