Aetas Indigenous Educational Support

Our club member Imelda lead an educational support program for Aetas indigenous for the school year 2021-2022 at Subic, Bataan in multiple occasions.

With this educational support program, total of 265 Aeta Students were benefited.

The following is the list of donated items:

School stationery materials for printing.
Feeding for malnourished (under weight 65kg) students. Distributed dry foods each bag with vegetables and fruits.
Rice donation for School faculty.
Donated 7 boxes of thermal gun scanner for fever and ample supply of antibacterial soup for hand washing.
Distribution of school materials for 265 students at Christmas Gift Giving for Day Care Center, providing toys, assorted cookies and chocolate. Additional snack for 60 students and parents.
Snack distribution at elementary school faculty year end party.
Sponsored lunch for the school visitors who held the program for face to face classes grade 1 to 3
Sponsored medals for graduation and for the recognition day

Community Pantry Event

Another Community Pantry event was held on May 15, 2021 at the new Barangay Sicat hall premise organized by the Brgy. Sicat officials and Brgy. Sicat Women’s Council.

Pres. Lito & PP Raymund attended the event with Julie Ann and Katrina.

A variety of fresh vegetables, rice, assorted canned goods, trays of eggs, noodles, condiments, packs of coffee and creamer, sweet pineapple, supplements, face shields and masks were distributed to over 250 needy residents of Brgy. Sicat.

The above items were donated from individuals and the Luksuhin Market Association.

We saw residents of Camp Hope (nearby indigent setlers) who lined up early with their ecology bags so they can bring food for their families.

RIMM donated 50kg of rice and 4 trays of eggs.

The Brgy. Sicat Captain Arnel Caisip was grateful to RIMM for contributing to the Community Pantry event for the second time. Gina Vedan of DSWD along with Len Reyes, President of the Alfonso Women’s Council (AWC) who were present in the event were also thankful for the participation of RIMM.

Aetas in Olongapo – Indigenous Support

Project Period: November 3 to 1st week of December, 2020

Project: Feeding Program (Dried fruits, Bread, Cereal, Milk, etc.)
Beneficiaries: 65 Underweight Aeta Students (from Kinder to Grade 6)

Our club member Imelda lead the project with support of our club past president Ivan. Due to Covid 19 pandemic restrictions, the parents of the students received the food on behalf at the school.

On November 4th, 2020 our club donated a rice cooker so that the teachers can cook rice for the feeding program.

Distribution of Rice and Firewood to Indigent Camps

On March 20, 2020 Pres. Henry and IPP Raymund distributed 12 sacks of rice and firewood to Usting 1 and 2 in Brgy. Luksuhin Ibaba and Camp Hope in Brgy. Sicat, Alfonso, Cavite for the second time.

There are over 50 indigenous families in the 3 camps. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, they became unable to go out and sell taho (tofu with brown sugar syrup) or balut (boiled duck egg) which brings their regular livelihood income.

The local government started to distribute rice and staple items, while RIMM continues to supply them canned food, additional rice, hygiene kits, water drums, etc. that are not provided by the government.

More than 42 children of Usting 2 lined up for the P20 bill given to them by Pres. Henry. The children hugged us with joy.

Updates on April 8, 2020

On April 8, 2020 Pres. Henry and IPP Raymund distributed canned sardines, noodles and laundry soaps to 51 indigent families in 3 camps located in Brgy. Luksuhin Ibaba and Brgy. Sicat in Alfonso, Cavite.

Because of the quarantine procedure in Covid-19 pandemic, RIMM quickly dropped the provisions and the camp residents picked them up.

The 3 indigent camps are receiving 5 kgs. of rice from DSWD each week.

The Enhanced Community Quarantine is extended to April 30. 2020.

On April 20, 2020 RIMM made another delivery of canned sardines, noodles, germicidal body soaps and laundry bars to three indigent camp locations.

The 51 families whose income rely on selling ballot and taho appreciated this provision since their livelihood was adversely affected during this Covid-19 pandemic period. They said the germicidal body soaps are useful for their children’s hygiene since they cannot afford to buy it anymore. Observation of proper hygiene for these 3 camps is important to prevent the spread of Corona virus in the community.

RIMM is hoping for the release of government’s financial assistance program for the “poorest of the poor” who were adversely affected by the said pandemic through DSWD.

At the moment the 3 camps are receiving a ration of 5 kilos of rice and a pack of hot dog or a kilo of chicken from DSWD each week.

RIMM has been giving its weekly ration from DSWD to families having 9 or more children residing at one of the camps.

Indigent Support – Squatter Camp at Ustin II, Alfonso

On Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020, a drizzly rainy day, RIMM members went to Ustin II squatter camp in Alfonso, Cavite where twenty families reside. This was a follow-up visit to the camp from five days ago where largely can food was distributed and further needs evaluated. One 5kg sack of rice was provided to each family, bread for the children, coconuts, firewood, 3 backpacks for high school students as well as notebooks for all elementary and high school students. The most happiest ones were the children who carried the coconuts and firewood back to their camp and then got rewarded with the bakery goods.
The Ustin II families sell ballot (boiled slightly grown duck egg) but with the volcano outbreak there were few tourists to sell ballot to and everyone went hungry. DSWD had therefore asked for our assistance for these camps which was immediately started on January 26 while finalizing our emergency relief efforts to the evacuation centers. This completed the immediate emergency relief of AWH (Academy of World Healing Foundation) and RIMM to three squatter camps namely Camp Hope (21 families), Ustin I (9 families), and Ustin II (20 families).

2019 Annual Gift Giving – Buck Estate Alfonso

On December 27, 2019, Rotarian Don Shields from Rotary Club of Geelong Central, Australia and RIMM president Henry attended the Brgy. Buck Estate Annual gift giving event.

Video and lecture of “Effective Parenting and Family Planning” performed by Captain Aimy Casabuena of Bry. Buck Estate, Alfonso, Cavite, Philippines were presented with an assistance by DSWD (Department of Social Welfare Development) Alfonso. We distributed 100 sacks of rice, 100 canned goods, and 200 coconuts to 100 indigent families. RIMM and RC of Geelong Central received the Certificate of Appreciation as sponsors of this event.

Christmas Giving in Laurel Batangas

On Christmas Eve (12/24) 2015, RIMM conducted another Christmas giving in barangay Bignay, Laurel, Batangas, a dirt road mountain ridge above Taal Lake. The barangay captain is a strong proponent of family planning as he has/is witnessing the rapidly increasing mountain population.

RIMM members took two cars loaded with sacks of rice and snacks for children, then later switched to a jeepney arranged by the barangay captain to access the steep mountain dirt road. A Christmas party spirit persisted with the singing of Christmas songs during the presentation of gifts for 30 families that also included P100 for each family from club funds and P20 bills for every child and senior donated by new Rotarian member Betty.

After the Christmas giving party event the barangay captain invited our members to his home for a delicious lunch of fresh tilapia prepared by his wife.
