Helping Evacuees of Mayon Volcano Eruption

Four club Rotarians departed on Jan. 28, 2018 on a four-day trip to provide emergency relief to the most needy evacuees that were building their temporary nipa huts along roadsides as the emergency relief centers were already overcrowded. After an over 10-hour drive in a van overloaded with school supplies, clothing, and hygienic products partially donated by overseas club Rotarians and guests, Legaspi City was reached.

Day 1. Distribution of school supplies, clothing, hygienic products and immediate cash for personal needs to families establishing temporary “nipa hut” roadside evacuation sites.

Day. 2 Returning with 250 kg of rice, additional baked goods and incidentals to the sites visited the previous day.

Day 3 – After evaluating the needs of evacuation centers in schools, an additional 500 kg of rice was delivered there.

While our humanitarian mission may have just been a drop in the bucket considering the never-ending needs, to those we served it was more than just a lifeline and brought joy and hope.
